In advance of their upcoming album on Deathwish, San Francisco metal trio Deafheaven just dropped a massive, nine-minute slab of noisy catharsis. With its violent blastbeats, mountainous guitar crescendos and soul-searing howls, it's not too far away from the sort of black metal/post-rock hybrid that made Liturgy both a very beloved band and a very controversial one, but it's definitely a breathtakingly structured, poignantly tormented, epic piece of music in its own right. Sunbather is out on June 11th. (via Pitchfork)
