Stream: Ryan Power, “The Prize”

May 08, 2013

Burlington, Vermont singer-songwriter Ryan Power isn't all that well known, but he makes the kind of off-kilter, dementedly complicated outsider pop that people (specifically, other musicians) get obsessed with. "The Prize" is the lead single from his sixth release, Identity Picks, and within its jazzy, five-and-a-half minute runtime, dude throws enough melodic curve balls our way to make you want to spend an afternoon going down a Steely Dan rabbit hole, though there's some odd, Stevie Wonder and Freddie Mercury inflections in his voice that creep their way in as well. Identity Picks is out June 25th via fellow Vermonters NNA Tapes.
