See Buddhist Monk, A New Character from Gorillaz Jamie Hewlett’s Opera, Monkey: Journey to the West

May 23, 2013

Tickets are available now for Gorillaz animator Jamie Hewlett's opera, Monkey: Journey to the West, running from July 6-28 at New York City's Lincoln Center. The acrobatic show features music by Damon Albarn. Created with director Chen Shi-zheng, it is based on one of China's four classic novels, Journey to the West, and debuted in the UK six years ago. Hewlett's designed a new crew of characters for Monkey's New York run. Have an exclusive look at one, Buddhist Monk, a glassy-eyed, vaguely androgynous ascetic above. Three other new characters were also unveiled this week. Here's Monkey King, Pig Monster and River Demon.
