Video: Salvia Plath, “Bardo States”

June 13, 2013

There's something both old timey and off-kilter about "Bardo States," a track from Mike Collins' first album under the name Salvia Plath. The bass line lurches like hips of a walking horse, and the violin sounds scratchy and ever so slightly out of tune, punctuated by a lazy, Spaghetti Western-like tambourine on the off-beat. His vocals are way too blown out to make sense of the lyrics, but if they have anything to do with the Buddhist concept of Bardo—the intermediary period between one life and another—this song definitely has waiting written all over it, which it why it feels right that none of the characters in this video seem to be actually doing anything. The Bardot Story is out July 8th via Weird World.
