FADER PREMIERE

The last song we heard from Texas producer Botany, "Anchor," felt like a happy marriage between Los Angeles beat sounds and the "ethno-introspective ambient world music" of '90s new age group Deep Forest, punctuating a slowly strutting beat with a beautifully half-buried, melismatic vocal sample. "Quatic" is the second single from his new album, Lava Diviner (Truestory), which he says was initially inspired by the concept of a religious sect waiting for a volcano to erupt. It's got a pretty badass, arpeggiated stomp, but with the kind of unexpected detours and intrusions—choir voices, piano glissandos—that make me feel like Lava Diviner (Truestory) is going to be a pretty epic journey all around. Grab it on October 29th via Western Vinyl.
