Stream: Vissacoor, “Spectral Evidence”

FADER PREMIERE

There's a strange, piecemeal quality to this cut from Vissacoor, the duo of Night Slugs founder L-Vis 1990 and Portland-based, Fade To Mind beatsmith Massacooramaan. Fire-hot synth squelches, pummeling drums and miscellaneous mechanical purrs and whirs erupt sort of haphazardly into earshot, occasionally cohering into the oddly aggressive polyrhythm but otherwise just sort of dangling vertiginously in space. It's suspenseful as hell, but it isn't until about two-minutes-in, with the arrival of a chromatic synth melody, that it starts to cohere into a pretty nasty Halloween track. Perhaps not so coincidentally, it's a promotional cut for the stacked, October 31st blowout that L-Vis 1990/Nightslugs is throwing at Passion Lounge in Brooklyn this week, featuring a live set from the collab in addition to folks like Kelela, Egyptrixx, Total Freedom, Rizzla, J-Cush and Gatekeeper.
