Even with the wobbly opening synths and front-and-center drum machine crunch, Gap Dream's "Love Is Not Allowed" feels more like warped rock & roll than, say, dance music. Maybe it's the doubled-up vocals or the eerily familiar grade school melody, or maybe it's just because we tend to mentally associate the LA-via-Cleveland band with tightly wound psychedelia. Put your cares and hopes away/ and save them for a rainy day, Gabe Fulvimar sings, his voice warm and ambivalent underneath plenty of of weed smoke and reverb.
