Video: Alex Bleeker and the Freaks, “Step Right Up”

FADER PREMIERE

This past summer, Real Estate bassist Alex Bleeker and his band of Freaks (which has included members of Mountain Man, Woods, and Big Troubles) released How Far Away, a record full of hummable melodies, classic country twangs and the bandleader's trembling vocals. Lyrically, album cut "Step Right Up" is about fighting personal demons with booze and music, so it pairs nicely with this sun-dappled footage of some mellow, midday debauchery. Shot on location at a Phish concert, the official clip is populated by the exact type of eccentrics you'd expect to see in that setting, and noted jam band enthusiast Bleeker looks right at home. Says the Brooklyn based artist of the environment, "It is my opinion that Phish has the most enthusiastic concert-going music fans in the world. The choice to shoot this video in the parking lot of one of their shows this summer was simple. This was the only large crowd I could think of that would lovingly embrace and interact with a man in an antler helmet without a moment's pause. " How Far Away is available via Woodsist.
