Songs for Peyton Manning

Every week, a different FADER editor compiles a playlist to highlight a new release and give you a guide to that artist’s web of influences and peers. These Staff Selects live in our Spotify app, alongside GEN Fs from our archives and playlists for each issue. As a bonus Monday playlist, in companion with last week’s Songs for Richard Sherman, Matthew Schnipper picks hella depressing songs songs for Peyton Manning to sulk to. I tried to end of a positive note.

Dreams came true for some last night, when the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl. Last week, I dedicated a playlist to Richard Sherman, the Seahawks’ outspoken and skilled cornerback. As the game was pretty much all Seattle offense, Sherman (who was taken out of the game injured) proved not be an enormous factor in the blowout win, but his ring is still much deserved. He now has the same number of championship titles as Peyton Manning, who was very nearly shut out last night. Manning, a dazzling quarterback whose skill is nearly unmatched, just kinda sucked, along with his entire team. I feel a little bad for him, along with all you Denver fans. You must feel like garbage. There’s nothing like a heavy bummer jam to wallow in to make things better, so here’s a playlist for Peyton Manning’s much needed, and surely coming, catharsis. Enjoy the off-season.

You noted that Richard Sherman “proved not to be an enormous factor” in the blowout win. That is a false statement, since the best cornerbacks are virtually nonexistent in the box score. This is because they covered their opponents so well that passes were never thrown in their direction.

Seattle’s defense is also much more responsible for the win than Seattle’s offense, as the turnovers they were able to create were what gave their offense so many scoring opportunities.
