FADER PREMIERE

In Sam Hockley-Smith's FADER cover story about Travi$ Scott, he described the rapper and producer sitting around in a hotel room, trying to perfect a remix. He was working on an edit of "Neptune Estate," a song by 19-year-old Archy Marshall, better-known as King Krule, and I imagine the scene wasn't all that different from the messy, smoke-filled London bedroom where 19-year-old Marshall messes around with his own music-editing software. Finally, we can hear the fruit of Scott's labor, streaming above. While Marshall's original already had the chewy, hard-edged stamp of an artist who understands hip-hop, Scott's version is bleary and low-key, with a welcome burst of groggy energy when the rapper's verse hits about 30 seconds in.
