Vic Mensa Almost Has the Worst Night Ever in “Down On My Luck”

Vic Mensa navigates a choose-your-own-adventure club night in the video for slick club-pop single Down On My Luck.

May 12, 2014

Save Money crew member and recent XXL Freshman Class 2014 pick Vic Mensa wrapped up a tour with pop-house duo Disclosure this spring, so it makes sense that his latest single "Down On My Luck" is basically a Disclosure track (though it was produced closer to home, by fellow Chicagoan Stefan Ponce). It's a slick, elastic club number, and there's barely any rapping here, mostly lonely sung mantras, but he pulls it off—he's got a surpisingly effortless singing voice. For the video, Mensa lives out a choose-your-own-adventure club night, pressing reset on night-ruining moves like putting molly all in his champagne (beer, whatever) and texting back a particularly on-one lady friend. If only life was so simple, Vic. "Down On My Luck" is officially out July 6, but you can pre-order it now.
