FADER PREMIERE

Allan Kingdom's gaze is focused squarely on his own soul with the release of the introspective Future Memoirs. The St. Paul, Minnesota rapper/producer first caught our attention through his work with THESTANDARD, alongside producer Psymun, spitter Bobby Raps and subversive singer Spooky Black. All three show up with contributions here, as well as production creds from Ryan Olson of Poliça and Plain Pat, but Allan's distinct quirk stars the show. Rappers often slow down or soften their flow to connote vulnerability, but the warmth of Allan's voice doesn't need to play up those dramatics--see the crackly falsetto that anchors "Wavey." The young artist's confidence is apparent not only through the rhymes, but the nasal and occasionally chirpy voice projecting them--at times recalling Chance, Cudi, or Andre, but still altogether unique. Stream the project below, and look out for a collaborative album from THESTANDARD coming soon.
