Kool A.D., Toro y Moi, & Amaze 88 Cruise Through Bay Area Breeze on “The Front”

FADER PREMIERE

Like most Kool A.D. projects, Word O.K. featured dusted, red-eyed raps that channel the best of the Bay Area's breeze. "The Front" plays like the tongue-in-cheek old-school homages Tribe and The Pharcyde would sneak in when no one was watching, but singer/producer Toro y Moi's chewing gum synth bassline and mumblecore hook give the cut a quirky contemporary cuteness. Amaze 88 has long been an ace producer in A.D.'s back pocket, but he spits some goofball bars here that would be well welcomed in a 2am dormmate cypher. Everybody nod your damn head, or whatever you ain't gotta nod your damn head, A.D. spits while they all fill up on gas and check out some hubcaps--low-demand raps for another wasted day.
