Afropunk-Bound Trio BLXPLTN’s New Video Makes Us Wanna Rage

“Pressure”looks, and sounds, like a really fun barroom brawl.

On "Pressure," Austin, Texas trio BLXPLTN muster up the sort of working-stiff punk vibe that makes me smile really wide and also feel like punching someone in the face. The track is scrappy, hoarse, clenched-fist pub rock and the official video, embedded above, offers some appropriately rowdy visual accompaniment. Set in a crowded bar adorned with neon Bud Light signs, it's as goofy as it is visceral. "Sometimes people need a little encouragement to let go," explained bassist Jonathan Horstmann in e-mail. "This video is our way of saying, "It’s OK...RAGE." The song is off the band's upcoming debut LP, Black Cop Down, which is out this fall. They'll also be in Brooklyn for Afropunk this weekend. I'll be there, attempting to crush an empty beer can on my head when they play this one.
