In the video for “We’re Like The Hard Born,” new Dutch artist BEA announces herself with keen ethereal pop sensibility and a sustained, commanding gaze. Wearing a Shabba-style catscratch in her eyebrow and a skin-toned body suit, the video consists of a selfie in an infinite-space steam room. A loyal-seeming animated dog fades in for the chorus, singing BEA's pitched down voice. The song itself, perhaps unsurprisingly, is in the style of '90s lounge pop—simultaneously familiar, devoid of personality, and futuristic, emanating some kind of tranquility.
