Watch Synth-Pop Oddball Jerry Paper’s “Chameleon World” Video

It looks like a public access highlight reel.

September 09, 2014

When Brooklyn-based synth warlock Lucas W. Nathan released Big Pop for Chameleon Worldhis alter-ego Jerry Paper's most recent album of schmaltz-pop meditations, he included a download to a video game that let listeners explore a digital version of his strange universe. While we half-expected the video for the sort-of title track "Chameleon World" to be game-play footage, the clip feels more like a goofy public access highlight reel, featuring a dead-eyed Nathan performing as a bunch of different versions of himself, playing into the record's lighthearted existential ideas about identity in the digital age. It also features a few lei-wearing Jerry avatars, beamed in to dance alongside the spectacled pop oddball IRL.
