For the most part, shopping malls all look the same. That's why it's such an effective setting for films and music videos; every mall looks like your mall, the weirdos wandering around look like your weirdos, the food court looks like your food court. In the new video for "Put Your Number in my Phone," the seasick first single from his new double LP, Ariel Pink stars as one of those familiar eccentrics, dressed in teal fur and a matching cowboy hat. He's playing wingman to a wheelchair-bound David Lynch look-alike; watch as the duo strikes out with the ladies left and right. "It's a story about friendship and the pursuit of happiness," says director Grant Singer. "Joe Buck and Ratso Rizzo dream of life outside the sea of vacant storefronts and lonesome chattel on display in middle America." The double LP of pom pom is out November 18h on 4AD. For more, revisit Ariel Pink's cover story from THE FADER's 2010 Summer Music Issue.
