Marques’Almeida for Topshop Is a Lot More than Just Denim

The dynamic denim duo branch out with orange taffeta and full-on lavender ensembles.

September 30, 2014

In an exclusive editorial for DazedMarques'Almeida debuted the first images of their collection for Topshop. Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, the duo behind the brand, have become entirely synonymous with a specific type of deep blue, heavily frayed denim in every shape possible. The below images were, as such, a bit of a surprise, but then kind of a delightful awakening. Slightly frayed miniskirts in what looks like burnished orange taffeta! Lavender palazzo pants with a top to match! A wide-legged leather suit! This is not the Marques'Almeida collection that we were anticipating (though their Spring showing gave us some hints), but it might be even better. Check out the accompanying interview, where they discuss their work habits ("we can discuss the proportion of a sleeve for ages"), visual inspirations ("early Corinne Day and Kate Moss shoots"), and musical motivators ("Skunk Anansie and Lauryn Hill"). Browse the editorial below, revisit their distressed-to-death denim origins and get ready for the Marques' Almeida x Topshop collection, which hits stores on October 9th.
