The Trailer For Stoner Noir Inherent Vice is Finally Here

Joaquin Phoenix tries to solve a case in the sun-blinded streets of the City of Angels.

September 30, 2014

The internet has been practically salivating for the tiniest taste of Paul Thomas Anderson's adaptation of Inherent Vice ever since a single photo of a stretch of 470 feet of dolly track nearly broke Reddit last August. Now, fans of Thomas Pynchon's highly-lauded stoner-noir can get their first substantial fix: the trailer is here. Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro flank Joaquin Phoenix as he moves through the slinky psychedelia of 1970s Los Angeles as pothead/detective Doc Sportello. The trailer is as lush and playful as you would hope, watch it above and then settle down a bit: the film doesn't drop until January 9, 2015.
