Little Pain’s Back From The Dead With “L.I.T.T.L.E.”

Real pain, no gimmicks.

October 30, 2014

I ran into Little Pain in person last spring, after semi-critically posting about his song "SMH." Sample lyric: Shed some tears up in your spouse/ Find teardrops all on the blouse/ Shedding tears what I'm about… Yeah I cry, and I pout. He said he felt misunderstood and boxed in by the whole idea of "sad rap," which as a thing was still feeling new then and feels old now. He said he wanted to talk more—our interview, and new music, is finally forthcoming. Today's he's announcing his sophomore mixtape, L.I.T.T.L.E., via the title track, which premieres above.

"I haven't put out any new music in a while because I wanted to take my time with this project," he told me over email. "I dropped my first project only eight months after I wrote and recorded my first song, and I was basically still figuring things out as far as making music and also about myself. My last project was affiliated with terms like 'sad rap' or 'cloud rap'—I don't want to be affiliated with sad rap or cloud rap or anything like that. I just make music that represents me." On "L.I.T.T.L.E.," he's still rapping relatably about feeling bad about himself, though with less puns. He's still witty as hell, burying maybe my favorite lines of the entire rap season deep in the last verse:

I'm a shitty ass person
I've been shitty since a child
I should be a fucking toilet
Being shitty is my style…

I don't front, I keep it real
My life's been shitty for a while

*high cry*
