Soulection’s New Star Is An 18-Year-Old Producer From Scotland

Listen to “Temple” from Sam Gellaitry’s debut EP, Short Stories.

Now that we all know who Alex G is, it's time to get acquainted with another G. Meet Sam Gellaitry, an 18-year-old producer from Stirling, Scotland, who is releasing his debut EP on L.A. label/collective Soulection this February. I'm not sure he wants us to call him Sam G., but I have a feeling people are gonna. Apparently, his dad makes bagpipes, which might go some way to explain his deft handling of a menagerie of percussive sounds on "Temple," the first single from his Short Stories EP. There's so much going on—HudMo is a clear influence—and yet, instead of feeling weighty, the result is delicate, maybe even graceful. "I aimed to pay homage to the energies and genres which have helped me get this far as well as incorporate as many ideas as I could into the one track," Gellaitry told The FADER over email. Nice job, G. Soulection will release Sam G's Short Stories EP on February 17th (pre-order it here).
