DJ Deeon’s Ghetto Madness Mix Is A Trip Through Dance Music’s Past

Hard-hitting 23-minute mix from one of ghetto house’s legends.

Strut's reissue compilation series of legendary Chicago label Dance Mania has been killing it lately, and the just-released Ghetto Madness is certainly no exception. One of the amazing producers featured on Ghetto Madness, DJ Deeon, has put together a cracking 23-minute mix surveying the brittle, hard-hitting sounds of classic ghetto house. "This is a taste of where Dance Mania was at mid-'90s," Deeon told FADER in an email. "The mix goes across the styles—you got the classic ghetto sound with Gerald and DJ Funk but there was also raw house around at that time with Tyree, Paul Johnson and others making big DJ tracks. I also put in Steve Poindexter - that track changed the game for my generation of producers."
