Grimes Reveals She Scrapped Her Last Album Because It Was “Depressing”

In a Tumblr post, she also says that another song she co-wrote with Jack Antonoff will premiere on this week’s ‘Girls.’

Grimes is setting the record straight (once again) on her Tumblr. In a new post, Claire Boucher addresses rumors that she "ditched an album due to negative fan reaction to 'Go'." (Those seemed to originate with a Pitchfork article's interpretation of a New York Times profile, where Grimes said of the track she penned for Rihanna, "It upsets a lot of my fans, and I get why it upsets them. Everybody was like, 'Oh, Grimes is pandering to the radio.'" "Pitchfork sucks. I scrapped that album like 7 months ago lol," Grimes wrote on Twitter in September 2014, after both pieces were published.) According to Boucher, it wasn't the feedback that caused her to restart her album; it was that the album wasn't up to par for her.

"The album was scrapped cuz it was depressing and I didn't want to tour it," she writes. "I may release it one day. I throw out music all the time, i have almost 1000 gigs of unreleased music on my hard drive. I just want the next album to be as good as possible. Go was never on the album anyway, it is a collaboration with a close friend that was released for fans as a 'Thank you' for waiting since my album was being delayed. There are only about 4 people on earth who have heard my new music. People's opinions do not factor into my process. That is all, and hopefully this helps... I'm really not that sad or insecure of a person."

On a positive note, within the same post, Boucher revealed that we'll soon get to hear new music. It will be another song she co-wrote with .fun and Bleachers' Jack Antonoff that is likely "Entropy," which we reported on awhile back. The track premieres this Sunday on Girls.
