Don't know if I can, don't know if I want to is a familiar refrain to anyone who's ever heard a pop song about ill-advised crushes (which is a pretty significant percentage of all pop songs). The debut single from FREJA, a 27-year-old Danish singer-songwriter with more than a dash of '80s nostalgia, is no different, with its petulant can't-stop-won't-stop hook; but its fresh, clattering production somehow says it in a way that feels new. "'Young Heart' was written in Stockholm last summer," FREJA explained to The FADER over email. "It’s a song about falling for someone you know you shouldn’t, or cannot have. It’s a song about trying to control your emotions, and the frustration about not knowing what to do." Stream the infectious single below, and get FREJA's debut EP White Magic via her own imprint White Magic Records on October 9th.
