All Dogs’ “How Long” Makes Introspection Catchy

Another melodic punk song from the Ohio band’s about-to-drop LP.

August 12, 2015

The new All Dogs album drops in a couple weeks, and it's a pretty essential late-summer listen, full of slacker charm and sweetly devastating lyrics that are worth pouring over. According to creaky-voiced singer Maryn Jones, who also records as Yowler, the album's chock-full of the truths she has trouble articulating otherwise. "The songs on [new album] Kicking Every Day are a way for me to talk about the things I wish I could talk about with everyone I love," Jones told The FADER over email. "Really, though, they are things I want to say to myself."

She describes album cut "How Long," premiering below, as "an extended question about when I'm going to stop hating myself and be free of the faults I can't seem to shake." That uncertainty manifests in some piercing, poetic introspection: only you will let me in/ when I'm tearing off my skin, she sings over some mucky guitar buzz, just before the windows-down chorus of How loooong? comes in. Kicking Every Day is out August 28th on Salinas Records.
