The N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton had an impressive opening weekend, raking in $60.2 million. On top of that laudable accomplishment, the movie also attracted the praise of Ava DuVernay, the acclaimed director of Selma. After catching Compton last Saturday, DuVernay took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the film.
"Damn, they got it right," she wrote. She showered her counterpart F. Gary Gray with praise, calling his direction "brilliant." "Congratulations to @FGaryGray and all involved," she continued. "Another classic now under his belt. Your craft and care is on full display. Bravo, brother."
That wasn't even her highest compliment to Compton. "I was transported back," she noted. "You had to be there. @FGaryGray gets you as close as you'll ever get." One sequence in particular brought "a tear" to her eye. Read her heartfelt Twitter movie-review below.
