The Weeknd's "The Hills" hit No. 1on the Hot 100 this week. This is impressive for two reasons. First, the track took the spot from another Weeknd song, "Can't Feel My Face"—a feat that only 11 other artists have accomplished in the history of the charts. Second, "The Hills" is unusual for a No. 1 hit. It's a sludgy, fierce track, especially when compared to the light, bouncy songs that have been No. 1 recently (OMI's "Cheerleader" and Justin Bieber's "What Do You Mean").
Coinciding with the Weeknd's achievement, RL Grime shared his remix of "The Hills" today. The new version gallops forward until it encounters a pummeling barrage of synthesizers. After a quick moment to regroup, the whole process starts again. Listen above, and revisit FADER's cover story on Grime and the WEDIDIT collective.
