Bogotá’s Lao Ra Premieres Rebellious New Single “Jesus Made Me Bad”

“We all are wild at heart and we can’t help our behavior because we were made this way.”

Lao Ra hails from "super Catholic" Bogotá, Colombia, and so her latest song, "Jesus Made Me Bad," is a rebel cry that strikes especially close to home for her. "My mum, for example, doesn’t like this song," she told The FADER over email. "Even though my family is not really religious, she thinks I’m disrespecting tradition, but I just keep saying that’s actually the point."

What she means is that the glitchy, worldly song—which has dance sensibilities, but also sounds like something that could have come from Gwen Stefani circa "Hollaback Girl"—is about not apologizing for yourself. "We all are wild at heart and we can’t help our behavior," she said, "because we were made this way." Amen.
