When not busy with her day job as Beats 1's U.K. anchor, Julie Adenuga has been hosting the music webseries PLAYit—now a fully fledged TV show, with a slot on Sky channel ChannelAKA—since May of last year. To celebrate the success of the series, which puts the spotlight on new U.K. talent like Stormzy, Bonkaz, and J Hus, Adenuga is gearing up to release a PLAYit compilation full of exclusive and familiar tracks from artists she's featured on the show.
One such artist is east London MC and Newham Generals crew member Footsie, who's recruited fellow MC Brakeman for the laid-back "Time is Money." "I produced the track first," Footsie told The FADER via email, "and felt that the vocal should be a bit different to my usual harder type grime song, being the musicality of the track was on a nice easy vibe with heavy piano chords and big string sections. I got writing and time is money turned up. I put down the hook and two verses and could just hear Brakeman on it rounding it off. Sent him the track, he wrote then came to my studio and vocalled it."
"To have an artist like Footsie on the PLAYit Compilation is as important as having new artists like Connie Constance or El Nova," Adenuga added. "U.K. music as a whole should constantly be celebrated, from the veterans to the newbies. I’m honored that he decided to add an exclusive track to the compilation for his supporters! He’s such a kind soul and has been a massive supporter of the show since it started!
