Papa Reinvent Themselves With “Hold On”

“We miss rhythm, we miss the sound of hunger, we miss honest dissatisfaction.”

October 22, 2015

The Los Angeles band Papa has tried on a lot of musical identities over the years—the group's primary members Darren Weiss and Danny Presant have been playing together since they were eleven—but the iteration of Papa that is on show on their new single "Hold On" is one they are particularly proud of. As Weiss explained via email to The FADER: “If in the past, we tried to find a place for ourselves within the musical landscape presented to us, we now see it as our absolute mission to make sure that we don’t fit, and we’re very proud of that.”

Here their guitar rock is a less sunny, and their lyrics more peeved. It's a little less safe, and according to Presant, a lot more true to their heart. "The sound out there is pretty bleak to us," he said. "We miss rhythm, we miss the sound of hunger, we miss honest dissatisfaction." Hear for yourself below.
