Portland Pop Group Wild Ones Premiere Video For “They Said”

A song about “young love and tough obstacles.”

October 30, 2015

Portland pop group Wild Ones released their EP "Heatwave" on Topshelf Records this past August, and have been touring the country with Pure Bathing Culture this fall. Today they're premiering the video for the warm, sweet track "They Said." The video follows four teenagers as they hide from grownups, drive toward the sunset, run through corn fields, eat peaches, and all sorts of other nice things. It's a song full of glimmering synths and keyboard, and singer Danielle Sullivan's vocals fill the track with a cinematic quality that matches this visually pleasing video.

Sullivan told The FADER over e-mail that "They Said" is about "romantic triangular desire and the challenge of having a doubtful third party weighing in on love. The director, Becky Holladay, took this theme and set the scene in an environment of racial tension. She explains, 'There is something about the dichotomy between how light the music is and how the lyrics have this twinge of melancholy to them that made me think of young love and tough obstacles.'"
