Vince Staples Defies Gravity In The “Lift Me Up” Video

“This shit ain’t Gryffindor.”

January 29, 2016

"Lift Me Up" is a statement track: as the first full song on Vince Staples' debut album, it has to hook the listener. And it does, right away, with an icy beat—courtesy of No I.D. and DJ Dahi—and an impressive opening verse that references, among other things, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Muddy Waters, Madonna, Moses, Nirvana, and a serial killer. In the eye-catching clip, Staples floats around the port of Los Angeles as seagulls flutter in the distance. David Helman and Dustin Lane directed the video. Watch above, and revisit the MC's FADER documentary.
