Humans Share New Single “Water Water”

The Juno-nominated Vancouver duo get their feet wet on the first single from a new EP.

February 23, 2016

The first time I visited the west coast I was blown away. Traveling from a flat, landlocked Great Lakes city surrounded by residential and industrial sprawl to a place like Vancouver, which is perched on the edge of a continent and encircled by mountains and foliage is an experience that feels almost surreal. Vancouver duo Humans, newly signed to Mom + Pop Music, channel the ancient thrill of their hometown topography for the dancefloor in a new song, "Water Water."

"It's a song we've been singing on our way to the beach since 2009," the group writes in an e-mail to The FADER. "We took it to the studio and ended up totally redoing it, but keeping a couple interesting melodies and refrains." Layers of recorded handclaps, studio chatter and analogue synths, including a low-lying thrum that sounds like a strong wind, build to a deep groove over the course of almost 10 minutes. Despite this, Humans write: "I think it shows a more chill side of us."
