Stream Eerie Wanda’s Joyful New Album Hum

A yummy, sunny record from the Netherlands’ newest indie pop group.

February 25, 2016

Dutch-Croatian singer-songwriter Marina Tadic sort of accidentally started her group Eerie Wanda while she was working post-art school as guitarist for Amsterdam band Earth Mk. II. At some point, one of Tadic's bedroom demo tapes found its way to Jasper Verhulst, the bassist of Jacco Gardner, who soon thereafter decided to join forces with her. Dummer Nic Niggebrugge, also of Jacco Gardner, and Bram Vervaet followed suit, and together they became the band now known as Eerie Wanda.

The band recorded their debut album, Hum, (which premieres today in full) themselves "in a Cold War-era bunker in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam," as Tadic told The FADER in an email. Despite that, Hum is warm and joyful in an off-kilter, Beat Happening-type of way. "It was summertime so it doesn't sound as dark as you would expect from an album recorded under these circumstances," Tadic continued. Damn straight, it's not as dark as you might expect from a bomb shelter recording space—every song on the album is a jam that fills your ears with daydreamy sunshine. Yum!
