Joeisjova Braved A Blizzard To Let You Know “I Really Need It”

“It’s about chasing the first high, in my case, of love.”

When the blizzard hit Brooklyn earlier this year, Ohio-born, N.Y.C.-based emo rapper and producer Joeisjova found the perfect setting for the video to his new single "I Really Need It" off of his upcoming EP, Rough Waters. The drive-by beat provides a strong foundation for the song but it's the open-ended lyrics that allow the track to be relatable in any context.

"It was just a Sunday, I was messing with minor chord melodies and found that groove," Joeisjova told The FADER via email. "I put heavy trap drums and 808 with it, and started singing. I produced, wrote, and mixed the song in about two hours. It's about chasing the first high, in my case, of love. Rough Water is an EP about me being a water sign, but things aren't always so smooth. Shallow ass, deep ass love songs."

Video director Jake Money shot the cinematic clip of Joeisjova vibing out in the snow in front of his Brooklyn apartment. "I had the idea for 'I Really Need It' weeks before the blizzard," Money told The FADER via email. "I wanted a simple but well filmed and edited video. I had the vision of how I wanted to edit it, I just needed a unique atmosphere to go with the feeling of the song. When the blizzard came I knew it was perfect; we literally walked right outside our room and started filming. More ideas started coming to me while filming as they usually do. I focused on getting as much slow motion as I could until my camera froze to death. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out, after having almost no time to prepare."
