Monika Brodka is kind of a big deal in Poland. Known simply as Brodka, the Warsaw-based alt-pop singer-songwriter has released three albums over there (the last one going double platinum). Today, she unleashes the bizarre video for “Horses,” the first single from her English language debut Clashes, out on May 13.

I am a car crash girl, she coos over orchestral chamber pop with a distinctly dark, cosmic edge. It’s a reference to Kim Gordon’s description of Courtney Love in her autobiography Girl in a Band, and a fittingly off-kilter introduction to the Polish star—not least because the video features cars being crashed into walls and Brodka as an Ex Machina—esque automaton undergoing a series of strange experiments. "It's about transformation and spiritual metamorphose," Brodka explained to The FADER over email. "Mechanical horses. Glorifying of metal and cars. An escape into an imaginary world."
