Flowers tend not to grow well in the sand and salt of the beach — but that's no matter for Athens, Georgia singer Ruby the RabbitFoot, whose spellbinding new single "Beach Flowers" is about finding beauty and strength in that sort temporality.

"A beach flower is something beautiful and temporary," she explained in an email to The FADER. "I had a crush on this guy but I knew it was all wrong. Pursuing him felt like planting flowers on the beach. He became my beach flower."

In the gothic video for the track, which premieres today on The FADER, Ruby writhes in the ocean and gets tangled in spiderwebs. And, most importantly, she persists. I'm not afraid, she sings. I've been torn to shreds and I get up, I do it again.

"Beach Flowers" is the first track off Ruby the RabbitFoot's forthcoming album, Divorce Party, which will be released August 12.
