In 2009, the New York City-based experimental label, RVNG Intl., launched their FRKWYS series as a way of facilitating collaborations between great artists of different generations. Volume 13 is the latest installment and finds synth legend Suzanne Ciani and composer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith drawing inspiration from coastal northern California, where they both live, as well as their shared appreciation of electronic music pioneer Don Buchla's synthesizers. Their album is called Sunergy and is due out September 16, but you can listen to the absorbing first single, "Closed Circuit," below.
