"I speak for every American when I say we are horrified and we stand united with the people and police department in Dallas," Obama said before touching on the subject of gun ownership in the U.S. "We also know that when people are armed with powerful weapons it makes attacks like these more deadly, more tragic. And in the days ahead we are going to have to consider those realities as well." Obama confirmed that he has spoken to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, and offered him his condolences and federal assistance.
