Lorenzo Senni has provided the score for The Challenge, an artful new film from avant-garde Italian director Yuri Ancarani about the tradition of falconry among Bedouin people in the Middle Eastern desert. Composed in collaboration between Senni and Francesco Fantini, and performed by the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the score is as dizzying, playful, and slightly unconventional as the movie itself.

As both he and the director are Italian, Senni described their collaboration over email to The FADER, with tongue in cheek, as being like that of “Michelangelo Antonioni and Giovanni Fusco.” He explained that having seen the movie in its final stages, he and Fantini decided to "think big" and work with a full orchestra, resulting in "an amazing process of learning which led to something very difficult to achieve for each of us individually." Listen to an exclusive preview of the resulting score, and see stills from the film, below.
