The use of ticket bots is now illegal across the U.S.A. after President Obama signed the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act of 2016. The bill was originally introduced in February 2015 by U.S. Representatives Paul D. Tonko and Marsha Blackburn. Obama signed it yesterday, December 15.

As Billboard reports, the law means that both people using the software and people buying tickets with the knowledge that the software was used can be convicted. The government can also file civil suits on behalf of people who miss out on tickets for events due to scalpers.
