Chance The Rapper is the latest GQ cover star and spoke to the magazine about his come up, how he manages life as a celebrity and new father in Chicago, plus what Kanye West is like behind closed doors ("he says crazier shit in private than he does in public," apparently).
Toward the end of the cover feature Chance is asked about the impending Trump presidency and whether he is afraid or not. He replied by focusing on the President-elect's supporters and said that has little sympathy with white Trump voters who felt overlooked during Obama's time in office.
"You gotta just understand, like, shit has been fucked-up, right?," Chance is quoted as saying. "Like, 'Make America Great Again,' that’s not a real thing because shit ain’t really switched up for them. It’s not really going that bad for you. If you feel like you’re the under-represented, under-appreciated side of Middle America that is white —quote me— you need to, uh, toughen up, nigga! Somebody gotta punch you in the chest, because shit is sweet for you. You know what I’m saying?"
However, Chance ended by telling readers not to worry because, "I’m making music for your kids now. I’m coming so clean-cut with the message of hope and understanding, and the Word, that it’s like: What could you be fearful of?"
