Barry Jenkins, who was on stage to accept an award at the Golden Globes for his movie Moonlight on Sunday, is taking part in an upcoming Elton John music video contest. Elton John: The Cut is run by YouTube and will see amateur directors competing to create the official music videos for his classic hits “Bennie and the Jets,” “Rocket Man,” and “Tiny Dancer.” The three winners will receive $10,000 each and see their videos made. Applicants can enter here. The closing date is January 23.
Elton John and his long-term writing partner Bernie Taupin will be on the judging panel alongside Jenkins. Other judges include Beyoncé and Solange collaborator Melina Matsoukas plus Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. A donation of $20,000 will be made to the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center on behalf of Jenkins for his involvement in the competition.
