Donations are being solicited to assist with the funeral expenses and "further support" for the families of the six men killed in the shooting at the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center on Sunday. The GoFundMe page was established by Canada Zakat, a charity working with Muslim communities. The names of the victims are also listed: Abdelkrim Hassane, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Ibrahima Barry, Azzeddine Soufiane, Khaled Belkacemi, and Aboubaker Thabti.
On Monday, Alexandre Bissonnette, a suspect in the shooting, was charged with six counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder. A second suspect was arrested the night of the shooting, but was later identified as a witness and released. Bissonnette is described by the Globe & Mail as an "online troll," known to activists in Quebec City as anti-feminist, pro-Trump and a vocal supporter of the far-right French politician Marine Le Pen.
"It's a very, very big tragedy for us," Mohamed Labidi, the mosque's vice president said to the CBC after the shooting. "We have a sadness we cannot express."
