Moonlight Sweeps Spirit Awards

The Barry Jenkins film won all six categories it was nominated in.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards took place Saturday, and Barry Jenkins' masterpiece, Moonlight, swept the ceremony, winning all six categories it was nominated for including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and the Robert Altman award. Unfortunately, Moonlight was not up for any acting awards however that did not stop the cast from dominating the night.

The next ceremony in this year's awards season is the Academy Awards on Sunday. In which Moonlight is up for Best Picture, Mahershala Ali for Best Supporting Actor, Naomie Harris for Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Barry Jenkins for Best Directing, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
