Oscar-Winning Actor Mahershala Ali Is Secretly A Good Rapper

If the Oscar-winner wasn’t acting, he might still be rapping as Prince Ali.

Though he's been acting for over 15 years, Mahershala Ali reached new levels of stardom in 2016 thanks to his roles in Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and Marvel's Luke Cage series. But, during the beginning stages of his acting career, Ali tried his hand at another performing art, rapping under the moniker Prince Ali.

According to his iTunes biography, Ali began his rapping career after earning his masters degree in acting from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. The Oakland founded his own label, Eye5 Recordings, and released his Corner Ensemble project in 2006. The project was later released Hiero Emporium, the label founded by seminal Oakland hip-hop crew Hieroglyphics, who also released his Curb Side Service project in 2007.
