Krs.’s Soca & Blues Vol. 1 Mixtape Is The Perfect Carnival Comedown

Warm vibes to get you through tabanca or the last days of winter.

There are approximately a gajillion soca mixes you can listen to at any point in the Carnival season, but Toronto producer Krs. has come up with something for the moodiest time in the calendar: the come-down. Soca & Blues Vol. 1 is a slowed but still vibesy compilation of some of the biggest Trinidad Carnival bangers of the past couple of years by artists like Machel Montano and Kes the Band. My favorite is "Circles Riddim," a clattering, humid, beach-friendly bop that interpolates the siren horns of Kerwin Dubois's road stomper, "Circle."
