As mosh pits and DIY become increasingly fashionable in modern hip-hop, B L A C K I E is one of the pioneering artists to find a sweet spot in the intersection of noise and rap, as well as someone most committed to getting a good result. But the Houston artist's great new album REMAINS, the follow-up to 2014's IMAGINE YOUR SELF IN A FREE AND NATURAL WORLD, isn't a timely return. That's because the new eight track effort still doesn't fit comfortably next to any superficially adjacent sound: it doesn't lean on rapping as heavily as Death Grips or bedwetter, and is far stranger and Lovecraftian in tone than Broward County's current, angry crop. It's noise-rap, it's post-punk, it's jazz, it's art. Listen below and download it here.
