Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House oversight and government reform committee and a Republican representative from Utah, is resigning from Congress. Chaffetz announced the move in a letter posted on his website.
"As you know, after careful consideration and long discussion with my wife, Julie, we agree the time has come for us to move on from this part of our life," Chaffetz wrote. "This week I sent a letter to Governor (Gary) Herbert indicating my intention to resign from Congress effective June 30, 2017."
Last month, Chaffetz announced that he would not be running for reelection and hinted that he might not finish out his term in the House. Reports indicate that he is planning to take on a role at Fox News.
The Utah Republican has been heading up the committee investigating Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey earlier in May. Chaffetz has invited Comey to testify at a hearing next Wednesday.
