London singer-producer FEMME, aka Laura Bettinson, released a debut album last year full of scrappy, '60s-influenced alt-pop. Just in time for summer, she's blazing a new trail with her latest single "Fire With Fire," a bouncy and bass-y dance tune with a punch-up attitude. In the video, premiering above, she makes that heat felt via the medium of a chilli-eating contest in a retro diner.
"Like most of my best ideas, this came to me in the middle of night deep in a cheese dream," Bettison told The FADER in an email. "With our DIY budget in mind, we arrived at this dystopian chilli-eating competition. Director Ben Mahon took this initial idea and ran with it and together I think we've realized one of my best videos to date. The song is about picking a fight and squaring up to a challenge, letting the world know you're not about to be steamrolled — it's cheeky and a little bit twisted. Just like this video.”
